I'm so excited to announce that I will be carrying some of Sidehill cultivars as rooted cuttings in my online store this Spring. Many of you may have seen or grown his most popular variety Sidehill Trishie, but there are more than that. Many of these cultivars have not been introduced yet and I'm so honored to offer them to you this year.

For every Sidehill cutting sold through Rainfall Gardens, a percentage of my profit goes back to Ray for his breeding efforts. It's my hope to spread his cultivar far and wide. They're truly beautiful and are hidden gems in the dahlia world.

Ray Phillips’s Cultivars

Ray is currently growing and hybridizing dahlias with his wife Pat in East Tennessee. The name Sidehill came from Louis L'Amour's Western novels, where the writer mentioned the hero from the sidehill of East Tennessee. Ray is a huge fan and has read most of his works.

He has many cultivars and 4 of them have been added to the ADS classifications: Trishie, Icarus, Geneva and Laura K, but unfortunately Sidehill Geneva was lost . A few of his cultivars are being added to the 2025 classification book. And my friends and I at the Tennessee Dahlia Society and Knoxville Dahlia Society are aiming to show more of his cultivars this coming season and get them in the book. Below is his cultivar list
